Critical Compound is a participatory project that consists of periodical sessions where creative workers present and discuss together with an audience their own curatorial practices or projects.

During each session, one or more guests would give a 20-30 minutes presentation that focuses on their curatorial ideas or practices, followed by an informal discussion that would give the speaker/s and the audience the opportunity of critically address those ideas in a collaborative framework.
Guests will be selected voluntarily and on invitation basis.

While allowing curators and artists to share their experiences, Critical Compound supports the empowerment of a long-lasting curatorial community in the city of Glasgow, aiming to construct a solid platform for creative workers of any levels.

Aliya Prichard-Casey
Aliya Prichard-Casey is a transdisciplinary curator-researcher, currently based in Glasgow. Her practice is grounded in place-based research, focusing on the reciprocity between contemporary art and context, with key focuses on spatial manipulation, collaboration, and resonance. Her interest in exploring the relationship we have with materials and places through moments of encounter spurred a place in my heart (2024), a collaborative exhibition with Glasgow based artist Lilian Evans. Giving curatorial form to previous place-based or place-centred research, this project provided both a culmination, and a beginning of, her curatorial methodology of the encounter; foregrounding the subjectivity of experience and perspective.

This interactive session will discuss collaborative creative practices and delve a little into site-specific place-based projects. It will discuss the challenges of curating contemporary projects i.e. balancing creative visions, staying motivated, and logistical things! It too will discuss balancing creative endeavours, something which I am grappling with as both a writer, a poet, and curator. We will also be unpacking love letters as an exhibition device!
