" I am a visual artist focused on the interaction of light, space, and perception within the Scottish landscape. My work examines how light changes scenes and the limitations of capturing these changes through a camera lens or artist's panel. This understanding shapes my approach to representing the landscape.

In my practice, I use a layered technique to guide the viewer’s eye toward specific focal points, while allowing peripheral elements to remain deliberately hazy. Much of my inspiration comes from my experiences swimming outside, immersing myself within the landscape.

I transform these watery environments into reflective paintings using layers of gesso, inks, and acrylics to recreate the contrasting textures found in nature. My compositions emphasise line, and boundary along with visceral colour, and are influenced by both the grandeur of the German Sublime and the introspective qualities of Romanticism. Additionally, I draw on the writings of post-modern photographic theorists like Roland Barthes and Walter Benjamin to question the need for authentic, human made artworks in an ever more digital world."

Connie Liebschner

Connie Liebschner studied a BA Fine Art at Loughborough University where she became interested in how digital mediums can be translated and compared to handmade productions. Following this, she worked as a print tutor for Leicester Print Workshop where she enjoyed pushing a multiplicity of techniques along with teaching a vast range of people. She later moved to Scotland to study for her Master in Print at Glasgow School of Art where she combined her printing knowledge with more traditional painterly techniques.

During lockdown 2020, Liebschner was unable to print and started painting. Throughout the last 4 years it has become her preferred medium, allowing for increased experimentation and accessibility when working in remote locations. Liebschner is the founding member of the G20 Artist Collective where she helps to lead cross-disciplinary conversations, along with increased community engagement.
Her work is held private collections in both the UK and Europe.
